You might wonder what this thread is about, or maybe not. The title gives it all away. This thread will be about contests currently held at sites other than AU or LOS. In this thread you can find some basic information concerning the contest.

-BASIC INFO
Calling all 3D artists pros and wannabees! BryceŽ software suite, is putting together their 2005 promotional calendar and they want your help. deviantART, in participation with DAZ Productions and NVIDIAŽ, is putting on a contest to find the perfect art for this widely distributed desktop calendar.
-RULES
* Each artist is limited to three (3) entries only! If you submit more than three entries, only your first three will be considered at judging time.
* Images need to be appropriate for general audiences to view. Images that are distasteful, pornographic, or of a controversial nature will not be considered. As this calendar is viewed by people of all ages, images depicting nudity will not be allowed.
* All images submitted must include at least one product offered in the DAZ Online Store. (This also includes the free content in DAZ|Studio and from the online store. No purchase necessary!)
* The description for all entries must include the artist's full name, location and primary occupation, a list of products used and software used to create the image. This information will be printed in the calendar to credit the artist.
* All submissions must be low-res images under 10 MB. After the judging is complete, the contest sponsors will contact the selected winners to have them upload the full size print quality image. All artists should create a high-resolution counterpart of their entry submission in case they are picked. Any artists with entries selected for the calendar who do not respond to the judging notification within one week will forfeit their standing in lieu of the sponsors being forced to find another artist with high-resolution images already prepared. All high-resolution images must be uncompressed TIFF or BMP images of print quality resolution (300 dpi), 12 inches by 12 inches.
-PRIZES
* One Grand Prize Winner will be selected to be the artwork for one month of the calendar, in addition to being the cover piece of the calendar. On top of that, NVIDIA is providing a FX-series NVIDIA graphics card for this winner. deviantART is also giving the grand prize winner a prints account, a one year subscription to deviantART, and $150 in deviantDOLLARS to spend in the deviantART Prints Store. To complete the package, DAZ Productions will also be paying the artist either $300 in cash or $400 in gift certificates to the DAZ Online Store (per the artist's choice) for the rights to use their art in the calendar and associated promotional materials.
* Eleven First Place Winners will be selected to be the artwork for one month of the calendar. On top of that, NVIDIA is providing a FX-series NVIDIA graphics card for each of these winners. deviantART is also giving each of these winners a prints account, a one year subscription to deviantART, and $60 in deviantDOLLARS to spend in the deviantART Prints Store. Finally, DAZ Productions will also be paying the artist either $100 in cash or $300 in gift certificates to the DAZ Online Store (per the artist's choice) for the rights to use their art in the calendar and associated promotional materials.

That wasn't that special. It becomes special when you look at the quality the winning entries had and the user reactions the post recieved. Here some quotes:

ya i didnt do anything cuz i thought id get my ass kicked i guess i was wrong. i should have... i coulda won that shit or got some honarable mention, hell any one from artuproar coulda kicked the shit out of thouse crappy ass designs

I don't think DA is quite what it used to be, that top prize was daylight robbery, she must have been laughinh her jolly head off when she saw the results, I should have done an entry - even I could have got a top placing.
