Highlighted Art (or lack of same)

OK....everyone has their own tastes...and,granted,when you are in a position to highlight what you like...fine....hard to argue with that...however,some of the pieces that have been highlighted are sh*t...sad but true. Why is one admin doing 90% of the selections?

give me a better argument, post links to what you feel are prime examples. maybe break up that running sentence a bit.

if you can prove your case i will do something about it. while i rarely highlight something (maybe 6 times a year) you may have valid arguments for your ideas of quality, favoritism is another sort of accusation all together.

there are a couple of things i'd like you to consider

first none of the admins are paid, this site doesn't generate revenue and all they contribute is volunteer work, also considering i have never told any admin here they even have to choose uploads to be highlighted it is going to be hard to actually get on anyone for using a voluntary feature we made for them to use, but like i said, if you can prove favoritism i will obviously do something about it.

secondly, have you bothered to contact the admin that you are so upset with?

i seriously wonder about some inconsistencies in your thread

I personally don't care about being highlighted....have been 4 times in the past...

there are some new people on here that are really good and should be recognized....are they?...some yes...mostly no....

there is featured uploads which stay up longer, carry reviews, and are choosen by site memebers. i haven't seen you vote for any of these uploads you praised, and for this whole month you have left one comment. if you are motivated enough to make this thread for these artist not getting enough recognition why don't you tell them personally how and why you feel their upload should have been noticed and praised

and I'm sorry but anime stuff needs it's own space...too many people doing it

while i am not a fan of anime style, i browsed through your profile and there is nothing groundbreaking there either.

anyway, like i said in the beginning, give me some examples and focus your argument a bit more and we will sort this out.

I read the original assiduously three or four times and each time looked [in vain] for the three words which could [at least partially] legitimise the complaint: i.e. "in my opinion" or imo if that's too much to type. I would hardly expect imho, since humility is obviously foreign to the writer.

I've been here at AU for about three months now, and find the community to be welcoming, fair and mercifully free of the popularity cults so prevalent in similar sites. So one admin. selects 90% of the highlighted works? Hmm ... that suggests to me that the person concerned should be thanked for diligence and hard work and not criticised. Favouritism? to what purpose? I have been fortunate enough to have had a number of pieces selected for highlight ... but anybody here is entitled to describe [in their comments] any of these selections as shit if they so wish. And if they have the honesty and balls to do so. This is far superior to making sweeping generalisations which annoy many people, including those not on the target list. The single shot is often more effective than automatic gunfire.

The only improvement I could suggest is in our own hands, and is pertinent to this issue: that is more comment - positive and negative - would be helpful to allow us all to learn and grow - and I think that applies particularly to the writers amongst us. Aside from that thank you AU for providing a superb platform for my stuff.

It is true that Doreen picks the most highlighted pieces here on Artuproar. However to say that now only her choice gets highlighted is the wrong conclusion. Several times I looked through the new works at AU and also saw pieces I loved, however already highlighted by doreen.

I think you should also note another fact, already pointed out by viro who said he maybe highlights 6 pieces a year. For me a highlight is a very high award so I won't give it that fast and only to artworks which look perfect in my op. Therefore I think there wouldn't be many highlights if for example only viro and I had to choose them.

Last I would like to point out if you don't like the highlighted, take care of the fact you like the featured. Members are able to select the featured piece when writing a review, so please do so.

unless you have a set time for people to try and make it to irc you will be spending a lot of time sitting in an idle channel. if you want to talk to another admin use ism if you want to send a message to all admins use the contact form which they all have access to (but like stev said you will be working around different schedules)

i wouldn't say i "love" them, there are a couple of things that make them necessary. you should have noticed hellionx10 edited his original message after 4 replies(time stamps) pretty much making it more than half the size it was originally. had i not quoted him, half my replies would be to statements no longer there.

Just in case hellion stuck around long enough for my reply since he is apparently pointing at me, here you go: =)

1. Admins get to pick what appeals to "their" taste not yours or anyone elses but "their" taste, apparently my taste is sh** so if you want to be highlighted go make some sh** and I will highlight you too. =)

2. There is a thing called a "Feature" highlight that the "Members" can choose according to "their" taste and they never seem to use it as SteV has pointed out but rather complain about what other ppl choose and highlight.

3. I always after these type of complaints see the word "Favorites" posted right after the complaint, whether I have a twinkling star or not I'm the same way, nothing anyone says will change how I interact or behave on the site, cuz all I am is another member of AU (but I simply have a lil twinkly star next to my name) another words who I talk to here only has to do w/ who talks to me, who gets highlighted is simply cuz I see something in the artwork or skin that appeals to my particular taste (that's all)

I have touched bases and asked the owner Chaz (though I forgot what year that was) if he wanted to take back my lil twinkly star or am I doing okay on his site and should I keep going, he said keep going so I simply do.

I know I've been greedy w/ picking the hightlights but again I asked the owner and there was no prob there, however now that we have a full crew of admins I'd like to apologise to them and step back and let them pick the highlights now. It's alot of fun and enjoyable, I know I've been a bad girl and I've been greedy there (sorry you guys) go have some fun I will tie up my fingers for a while from doing that. hehe

Doreen: Don't go anywhere...I see what you highlight and for the most part, I can see why you highlight them.... They are all different and show off different things or talents within the pieces themselves... I don't have all the time in the world to go and highlight..although I do try to get a fair amount in there... so keep on doin what yer doin. :-)

I see no problem with the pics Doreen makes and as virophile pointed out there is the "Featured" piece which is chosen by the members. Utilize it before you complain.

Doreen is one of the most valuable admins here! and it is shown on a daily basis as she is the one that consistently updates the "daily highlights". I don't really see that much interest in most admins to the daily goings-on of the site (of course, that is because sites like this basically run themselves due to member uploads and such, but Doreen has taken it upon herself to make sure each day seems fresh with new highlights, and I'm sure she has other things to do in her daily life, yet she still manages to keep AU a fresh page a day!).
I also may not agree with some of the chosen highlight awards (personally, I think some of my own best recent work has been better than some stuff chosen, but thats not the point of this site!... humble pie tastes sweet actually Emotion Icon ) I still love Doreen for being so willingly involved in this art community! and she does it sincerely and for the sake of the art community and not for anything else! in other words.. Doreen Rules!

*sigh* you guys are soooo sweet! (Thank you and Thank you Masterrrr)
Whyte I am not going anywhere so don't even think that...

I simply heard what Hellion said and I happen to agree w/ him when I thought about one point he brings up and that point is that if (1) admin picks the highlights then there will only be one particular taste shown over and over and over again, and he is right that is not fair and I know myself I'm stubborn and don't change for nobody on earth. Therefore the best solution for fairness on this site and fairness for the other admins (cuz I've been so greedy) is to let you guys pick the Highlights now and to pull myself off that lil nasty habit I have of being so selfish.

As far as time goes, it only takes bet 3-5 mins tops to come in here hit zoom and spot something really neat in each peice of artwork that suddenly your eye focus on that stands out in the work and then hit the highlight button. I think it's the best part of having the twinkly star and it reallyyyy makes ppl happy and proud. Soooo w/ that being said you guys need to take that over and have some fun!
Again so sorry I've been so greedy there it took this member to speak to my heart. =)

Don't tell me you are going to stop giving away the highlights. Okay maybe you should give some less but don't stop it.

You're like a special admin to me doreen. One of THE admins that has always been there. And that list is pretty small only containing chaz, viro and you.

Were other admins came and went or were pretty inactive at some times I always saw you as AU's (former LOS) active lady. And you shouldn't change that. You shouldn't stop highlighting at once.

Oh you be quiet SteVie and go pick those highlights I see two already begging to be highlighted! (It's killing me!)

There is enough of you admins to share the 4 picks so again "you guys" take care of that now...
(I'm not going anywhere I'll just kick back and laugh when you guys get beat up now for not picking someone and they complain) evil hehe!
