W.I.P. Set / Works In Progress

I thought it would be neat if we had a works in progress section whereby we could post our works as we are create them. It would give us a small peek into each others creative processes and techniques. I, personally, work in both traditional and non- traditional ways so while most of my pieces end up looking cg, they may not always start out that way.
This piece is just a character I'm working on which was inspired by one of Brom's art pieces. I'm not sure if I will include it as a Sorche character or not, but anyway it was quickly sketched with my mouse.

Mostly I make sketches before I make the final drawing, sometimes I keep the sketches after I finished the drawing, sometimes I throw them away. I looked in some folders and I found about 10 sketches I'm hoping to turn into a drawing someday or that allready have done so, I don't think I'm supposed to upload all of them in the sketches category but I would like to show you some and let you say what you think of them, how could I do that?

I'll upload Columbus to start with, this is a very simple idea and design, but I like the look it has even as a sketch [ link ]

Digital Disco will hopefully be something pretty cool when I finish it.
I have taken the image into photoshop, using the wand tool, removed the unwanted background, inverse and copy. Then created some neutral gradiant tones into a new document (I'll be thinking about how I will enhance the background later).
Now I bring the image into a new layer above my background. Gaussian blur the image and use the render (lighting effects) filter and create a soft yellow glow for behind the image.
Then paste the image into my third layer and the image is beginning to take shape (I will now deside how to proceed with the look of the piece).

I decided to work on this tonight.
In this one I have added colors by creating eleven layers. I have created the colors for each layer in the same way, this is just how I'm working on this picture:
-First, using the wand tool, I pick the object to color.
-Paste it into a new layer.
-Using the Render (Lighting Effects) filter, I then color the area, adjusting the amount of light width, etc. until I like the color. In this case, a little bright so I can tone it down later without losing too much detail.
I also cut some of the bits from the negative space to let more of the background show through, this is also easy to do with the wand tool, then hit backspace (just in case you aren't familaiar with how it works).

This is the finished work. I desided, due to the name of the piece, "Digital Disco", toning it down would be a mistake.
I spent some time cleaning up the image with the smudge tool, then I worked with the background a little, by adding a sandstone texture. I pasted the image over the sandstone background and then messed with the opacity of the new layer, I wanted to see a hint of the texture in the image also.
After this I added a design in the background using the lasso tool and by adjusting brightness and contrast until I ws happy with it.
Then the added lens flair to light it up a bit.
This was fun, but hope to work in more detail in the future.
