Photomanipulating / too easy?

I would like to ask a question to this community.
More and more people here are throwing themselves on photomanipulating, and are without any doubt getting marvelous results.
My problem with this is that in many cases they get their original photos from somewhere else, so 80% of the hard bit does not have to be done by them. The question i want to ask is then: what is in the end their merit. And shouldn't they try to photograph, draw, paint or render the original for themselves.
PS i have never and will never use a photograph i didn't take by myself as the central piece of a composition

As pointed out before one of the main reasons I don't use only my own photo's in my manipulations is the fact I can't make all the photo's. It's a combination of the place, the techniques and the models which I don't have.
However I think if someone makes a good photomanipluation it isn't that much a timesaver.
Maybe an idea in addition to this thread to take a look at this artist: [ link ] some very good photo-manips.

i'm not sure my comment matters with so many responses but ill tell you anyway. Because using other peoples stock helpes both them and the person who created the work both be noticed, to both be able to achieve statis. Also to be able to use and create wonderful pictures full of depth and composer. You might chose to make this desicion to say "yes" to stock but the many many persons who want that little bit of help to be noticed, i say "bottoms up"

I would only ever use a stock image for photomanips if I can't get the image myself. I use Istock, and so pay for the images I use, so I like to think I'm supporting the original artist that way
