Best program for abstract rendering?

I am trying to find the best program overall for abstract renderings. Since they are pretty expensive, I would like some advice before I throw any money around. Any Ideas?

I think max and cinema4D are the best bang for the buck for abstract. Just my opinion. With Cinema4D - matrix extrude is perfect for the tenticle trend renders you see everywhere. Cinema4D 9.5 has clothidle which can create the most incredible floating flapping twisting shapes. Many of the 3rd party plugins such as DiTools allows the user to create parametric shapes based on mathmatical functions of either presets or your own equations. With Jenna, Dpit, Xfrog, Ditools and other plugins - your abstract possibilities really are infinite in Cinema4D.
