Traffic is up... interaction bleh
Created by: chaz012 on December 12th, 2007 - Replys [14] Read [2413]
I'm just curious and I'd like some feedback... ArtUproar.com's traffic is at the highest it has been since I started tracking it (Excluding outliers), yet interaction is bleh... Any one got any good ideas? I miss when we used to have an active forum and more people provided feed back on artwork.
What do you guys think will help people interact more with the site?

Odd. I know I've been away as my bf had an accident at work and finally after 3 mos thigns are getting back to normal for me. I hope things get back to the way they used to be around here... AU has always been one of my favorite places.

I know. I agree about the interaction. If everyone is as busy as I am then I'd say that it's the holidays which have slowed things down. At any rate, I'm not sure exactly what could help interaction, but maybe a little of the old mixed in with this new might help.
For instance, I love the new look and feel of the site, but I miss being able to provide personal news updates on my page and links to other sites I frequent. Both of those features just disappeared for some reason.

1. Site Skins! (The new site is a bit too Vanilla)
2. Maybe work on a diff layout? (Feels unbalanced)
3. More features for your users (Instead of adding features for your users you took too many away instead)

i think a large contribution is the general age as well... I'd be interested in a pole of average ages just for giggles...
look at the people so far just on this post. no one here is younger then 21.
kids that are just here to post there stuff and look at cool stuff don't care half as much as anyone who is seriously looking for feed back.
perhaps doing things to get active and serious people involved would be helpful. is there a way to have an actual contest again?
haven't had one in a long time and I'd be willing to purchase something spiffy to send to the winner if the staff and some other serious participants (ex: people like liquid) can brain storm a realistic competition and a way to make it well known throughout the rest of the community.

to the winner.

I like the 3 colume type and I still think the old AU scripts it was more easier, less bugs?...I do miss the old folks!
on the commenting we need a preview before we submit, I like that.
and I agree with Doreen..

this version does have bugs... (can't view my results without voting on my own personal poll) but don't think for a second that the last version was ever so much better... there is a reason why we got the new version in the first place.
"What do you guys think will help people interact more with the site?
well... making the site work better and look better doesn't make people interact. it may catch their interest perhaps. however, "ArtUproar.com's traffic is at the highest it has been" getting people to look doesn't seem to be a problem.
more tutorials, more semi professional or even wanna be professional artists willing to put forth an effort to jog some ones brain into either say "wow! how did you do that" or even people up and up on new helpful software and toys that could make life as an artist a little easier.
forums that spark interest...
perhaps we could find a way to revitalize the point system.
make it more appealing and perhaps spark some rivalry among active members.
*going to sleep now. will type more later.

keep in mind bugs are only fixed as quickly as chaz is alerted of them.

Contest? Did someone say contest?! Ah, the magic word. Nothing like some good old fashioned competition to make a person wish ill on those he or she would call friends. :D
Cool prize is at stake and free advertising to draw in participants, but what kind of contest should this be? Hmmm, since interaction seems to be the topic of discussion
why not center the theme of the contest around that?
I'll just throw these ideas out there. I'm not sure if they are feasible or not, but they are geared towards interaction:
+ Create an ArtUproar logo or mascot ++++++
Participants could use any medium ( digital, traditional, video, etc; ) In addition to creating the logo or mascot, the participants
must post their entry on a public forum or blog site such as YouTube, MySpace, FaceBook, etc; (more free publicity for our AU, eh? ; )
+ Create a piece which shows why you love AU ++++++
This contest touches all categories (prose, art, photography, and video). Participants must also comment on X amount of
existing non-contest related AU uploads
+ Collaborative Efforts Contest ++++++
In this contest participants must browse AU to find a partner willing to do a collaborative art piece for submission. The person the participant
is searching for MUST be an AU member already for X amount of time period. The only drawback I see with this is that whichever collaborating team wins will have to have two prizes.
The participant who finds a partner would get the Zen mp3 player, but what could the participant who agreed to collaborate get?
Ah, well. That's all I got for now.

well from what i've read, buddy, only the first one will actually help with making au grow. all sounded rather snazzy though i liked the first and last the most. as for multiple winners, i could find something, that's not a problem. though i'd much rather find a way to elaborate a little more on the first suggestion if you could m8.
