I think you need to work on your lighting and shading. You are getting side tracked by the deepness of the colours, so try and stand back and ignore the colour for an instant , and look at the way the light hits the surface and the way the shading highlights the features. You can draw something perfectly accurate, but will never achieve a real likeness without the right shading etc, as this gives the piece its character ( or most of it)...of course, this is what I have found...there may be better advice out there.

I agree....try to see shapes in the light. overall a good pic though, although whether or not it is a good likeness i dunno. I have no idea who lee thompson is!
