Artist's Comment: Just finished today! Okay, I'm going to fully explain this...
I'm in AP Art (Advanced Placement=college level in high school). This is my second and last year of the class. When submitting an AP Portfolio, there are three sections of artwork: Breadth, Concentration, and Quality. The most fun part is the Concentration, in which everyone chooses something to base 12 pieces off. Last year, it was circles. This year, I've chosen psychological diseases, because I think they're interesting. This is the first piece--Manic/Depressive, or Bi-Polar.
Okay, now I'll explain the piece itself. There is the head in the middle, split into the Manic state and the Depression state. You'll see indicators of manic and depressive in the piece, like the darkness on the right side, and lightness on the left. Arrows pointing up and down (for the depressive side, the tears, which are made of words that describe depression, turn into arrows going down). Because a person in depression seldom expresses their feelings, it stays in their head--hence the words jumbled in the depressive side of the head. On the manic side, the words are coming out of the mouth, and there are no words filling the head on that side because a manic person usually with talk without thinking. And, the head is detached from the body, to finish it off.
I'm really proud of this piece. I planned it out for days and it took a bit of research. It's funny, though, because half of what is on the piece I didn't plan.. Like the cloudiness. I was inking when a huge drop of it fell next to the Manic hand, and I couldn't pick it up, so I blended it in. And I carried it on from there.
Any comments are greatly appreciated! Please use full-view! Oh, and it may be slightly darker than it should be... my computer monitor is messed up, so I'll fix it tomorrow when I'm on another computer.
