Artist's Comment:
This is the 7th in my concentration of Psychological Diseases--Sociophobia.
Socophobiasts tend to hide from the world. They're generally intimidated by the public, and feel to self-consious to be outgoing. They stay behind, are usually the wall-flowers, and by all means possible, blend in.
Here, this person is using her hair to hide behind. She is black and white--disconnected with the golds and yellows (outgoing colors) that represent the social life. In her hair, there are images of "social" butterflies, flowers, etc.
I had created a piece like this nearly a year ago (or more) by sticking my face in the scanner to get the image of floating hair hiding a face. I remembered that piece and decided to try again, because it'd go well with the idea of Sociophobia for my concentration. So I re-scanned and played in Photoshop 7.0 for about 3 hours and came up with this. I'm pretty satisified with it.
