Artist's Comment: The Story of Tao:
Tao is a solitary planet with two suns. It's inhabitants are human but they are far from knowing that there are others of the human race elsewhere. The early history of Tao recounts a tale of creation by an omnipotent, omniscent God. From there not much else is known about the origins or history of the planet and it's inhabitants. The people journey from point to point in large caravans searching for water. The planets surface has little surface water so water is mined and welled from inside the planet. Thus the city lights on the planets night side go from specific point to point... These citys and towns have access to wells and waterways under the planets surface. The temperatures get nearly impossible to travel in during the day due to the extreme heat from the two suns. Water possesion is truly a life or death situation...
The people of Tao are simple... and as the story accompanying the piece says... War is no stranger. Tao's people have hard lives... Today the strength and toughness they bring to lifes table each day will be put to the test... But the history of Tao comes to an end... for their enemies vanquish the War Hawks and destroy the planet... That's the short version.
This was an experimental work... The two key points of experimentation were the city lights and dynamic lighting fused with the realism of the departing ships... I feel like the experimentation went well. Definately some work to be done with city lights... but I feel they fit as they are in this particular situation...
When I work with an experimental ideal that I do not intend to be a full work, I will sometimes drain the original colors and create a single tone to better see the dynamics in the lighting and structure of the objects involved. Thus this is the reason for the single red-orange tone.
This was never intended as a real piece of artwork but the story compelled me to bring it to life. In the end it is still an experiment.

Really interesting.
Some things are meant to be left unsaid for our eyes speak for us when our mouths are dry of words. |
