Georgeous - I really love your end result with the colours - brightly positioned in specific areas like a candle light is glowing directly behind that area of the piece. To echo something I read from one of Doreen's previous comments, your work does have a stained glass feel. Lovely!

I agree with hiding any damage, looks good, like the lighting and textures as well as the design.
