my original intention was a space ship type of portal...so far tam's the only one who's perceived it to be that.  thanks for all the comments!

I see the portal, but it looks like a jumped up greenhouse to me, perhaps to keep coma ridden cloned humans, in some sort of transdimensional suspended animation until it is the time for them to do what their particular strain was intended.
